FAQ

Is Electrolysis safe?
Absolutely!  Electrolysis has been performed since the 1800’s and is the only safe and permanent method of hair removal today.  Electrolysis is safe for all areas of the body with the exception of inside the nasal cavity and the inside of the ears.

Is Electrolysis permanent?
Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal allowed to make the claim of  permanent hair removal.  Other methods can only claim permanent hair reduction.  The key to making your electrolysis treatment work is to keep up with your scheduled appointments.  Electrolysis is a process and with repeated treatments the electrologist will be able to ensure you get your desired result.  Once you start electrolysis you must stop tweezing or waxing.  If you continue to tweeze or wax it will only make your treatment process last that much longer.  You may cut or shave the area between treatments.  Just keep in mind that the hair must be visible to be removed.

Is Electrolysis painful?
Whether there is any discomfort during electrolysis depends on a patients tolerance, machine settings, modality used, as well as other factors.   The sensation has been described as a “slight heat”, “tingling” or  “stinging” sensation.  Your electrologist is trained to work within the comfort tolerance of his/her patients.  Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, again depending on the patients own tolerance. Are there any side effects?

Electrolysis has been performed for over 120 years and has proven to be an extremely safe procedure.  Some patients may experience a slight redness or swelling that will dissipate within a few hours.

Is Electrolysis expensive?
Electrolysis is very cost effective when compared to other temporary hair removal methods.

How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments necessary varies with each patient.  Many factors come into play.   Those factors are how much hair is present, hair growth cycles, the previous use of temporary hair removal methods, heredity, hormones, medications and stress.  If your electrologist doesn’t see any significant changes after a couple of treatments he/she may recommend you have medical testing done to determine if you have other factors affecting your hair growth.
